MWC 2013: Mobeam teams up with ams for POS mobile couponing acceptance

Wednesday 27 February 2013 11:19 CET | News

US mobile couponing & ticketing company Mobeam has entered an agreement with Austrian developer and manufacturer of analog semiconductors ams to bring integrated 1D barcode transmit solutions to smartphone makers.

The partnership is set to provide an integrated solution consisting of ams light sensors and Mobeam light-based beaming technology. With this partnership, handset makers will be able to support mobile commerce applications that use barcodes such as: coupon redemption, loyalty cards, gift cards and tickets.

The ams TMD3990 module uses the same type of proximity IR LED that is already used in smartphones today to disable the touch-screen display.

Mobeam’s technology makes digital coupons and other content presented on a mobile device universally scannable by every point-of-sale (POS) system. The company’s light-based technology turns barcode data for coupons, content, or offers into a beam of light that can be read by barcode scanners present at store checkout counters around the world.
