New Zealand: Mobile banking adoption reaches tipping point, says ASB

Monday 22 July 2013 08:46 CET | News

New Zealanders’ appetite for online banking has reached a crucial tipping point according to financial services provider ASB Bank, with more than half of ASB customers who access their bank accounts electronically now doing so on a mobile device.

The bank attributes the large-scale adoption and increasing customer appreciation of mobile banking to the high level of convenience consumers derive from having access to their finances on an “anytime, anywhere” basis. ASB Bank consumers were also found to value the wide range of banking functions to which they gain access via their mobile devices, with users constantly demanding that more banking services be offered over mobile.

ASB’s mobile banking app allows consumers to carry out payments using their mobile phone numbers and email addresses rather than account numbers. ASB also provides users with the ability to make payments direct to Facebook ‘friends’.
