NFC chip shipments to top 1.2 billion by 2015 – research

The adoption of near field communication (NFC) technology is set to push global annual shipments of NFC chips to over 1.2 billion units by 2015, research indicates.

The report, rolled out by In-Stat, reveals that the demand for NFC-enabled devices is set to increase as the number of mobile payment users is expected to grow to over 375 million by 2015.

According to the same research, NFC technology is set to reach 30 percent global penetration by 2015, with global annual shipments of NFC chips increasing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 129% over the forecast period.
