NFC Forum creates Special Interest Groups for NFC market implementation

Friday 25 January 2013 11:03 CET | News

The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that aims to advance the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, has created five Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that will bring together leaders from the areas of Consumer Electronics, Health Care, Payment, Retail and Transport to collaborate on NFC solution implementation, interoperability, best practices and future requirements.

The SIGs are set to enable the NFC Forum to take a more active role in driving NFC solutions development, deployment and adoption.

The SIGs’ activities include: educating the market on use cases, implementation issues and lessons learned; gathering business requirements; exploring ways to speed or smooth certification of NFC-enabled devices; establishing and managing liaisons with other groups to further collaboration efforts; and creating regional programs as needed.

In September 2012, EMV payment standards body EMVCo, currently owned by JCB International, American Express, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa entered a partnership with the NFC Forum.
