Worldwide secure technology company Oberthur Technologies has partnered with Visa Europe and Iceland-based multi-brand payment card acquirer Valitor to launch Icelands first mobile contactless payment project.

While using Oberthur Technologies SIM card, which provides integrated support for Near Field Communications (NFC) mobile contactless payments, Visa Europe and Valitor are set to work with Icelands MNOs to select 1,000 participants for the initial adoption in January 2012.

The full-scale pilot is scheduled for the second half of 2012, while using Valitors established relationship with the Icelandic banks and 600 mobile contactless POS terminals already existing in the greater Reykjavik area. Full commercial deployment is set to be programmed by the end of 2013.
