Under the agreement, Orange is set to connect existing mobile money subscribers to VisaNet, Visa’s global payment network, by integrating Visa Mobile Prepaid accounts into Orange Money accounts.
Orange Money is the mobile phone-based payment service designed by Orange for customers in Africa and the Middle East. It provides Orange subscribers with applications such as person to person transfers, bill payments and agent-based cash-in and cash-out services for loading or withdrawing funds.
Visa Mobile Prepaid is set to enhance the Orange Money mobile money program by enabling account holders to make person-to-person payments, retail and e-commerce purchases at merchants where Visa is accepted, or withdraw funds at Visa ATMs.
In recent news, Visa and global device manufacturer Samsung have unveiled the official mobile payments application of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Samsung and Visa are set to launch the mobile payment application at the Mobile World Congress which takes place in Barcelona between 27 February and 1 March 2012.
