Over 68% of US smartphone users accessed financial services via the mobile channel - report

Research conducted by a US market research firm indicates that within the past three months, 68.7 percent of US smartphone users accessed banking or other financial services on their mobile phone.

The main activity was checking bank account balances, as well as posted transactions, while almost 4 in 10 respondents mentioned transferring money between accounts within the same bank. In terms of the main methods used for mobile financial transactions, the majority of those involved in the study (65.8 percent) mentioned mobile browsers, as compared to applications (used by 19.76 percent of respondents) and SMS (14.37 percent).

According to the “Mobile Money Study” released by Data Innovation, a majority of respondents have also expressed an interest in using a mobile wallet which would enable them to swipe mobile phones like credit or debit cards.
