German mobile payments services provider payleven has made its chip and PIN card reader available via Media Markt, a German online shop.

For payleven, the partnership with Media Markt is a step on the way to making the chip and PIN technology available in the retail sector.

The payleven chip and PIN device transforms a smartphone or tablet into a portable card terminal. It is connected via Bluetooth to an iPhone, iPad or other Android devices and allows payments acceptance.

Media Markt, a consumer electronics retailer, was founded in 1979. The company currently operates 255 stores in Germany. Over 700 Media Markt stores, with a total headcount of approximately 50,000, can be found in 14 countries throughout Europe.

In recent news, payleven has signed an agreement with financial institution Poste Italiane which makes the payleven mobile card payment services available for all clients of Banco Posta in Italy.
