PayPal has entered an agreement with Canada-based restaurant management services provider TouchBistro.

Under the terms of the deal, customers are able to use their smartphone to check-in and pay with PayPal at cafés and restaurants at the point of sale. PayPals check-in functionality integrated with TouchBistros point of sale (POS) technology is set to enable restaurants to accept mobile payments and interact with their customers.

PayPal is currently piloting their cloud-based check-in technology with TouchBistro at a number of locations in Toronto. Using the PayPal mobile app, customers can check-in to these cafés or restaurants and pay using their PayPal account. When a customer checks-in with the PayPal mobile app, their name and profile picture shows up at the point of sale.

TouchBistro provides iPad restaurant technology for coffee shops, bars, food trucks, nightlife venues and restaurants. The TouchBistro app is currently present in 17 countries on the Apple App Store.

In recent news, PayPal has entered into a strategic alliance with pan-European provider of online banking platform IND Group, to offer PayPal money transfer functionalities to bank customers.
