PayPal unveils beta version of Mobile Payments library

Monday 15 February 2010 10:59 CET | News

PayPal has announced a limited beta version of its Mobile Payments library, which is part of the PayPal X global payments platform.

The company`s Mobile Payments Library is to be made available to US developers first, as a way to add checkout functionality for physical goods and services sold via the iPhone. The technology has been developed as a way to monetize iPhone applications and build mobile commerce businesses with PayPal.

ShopSavvy and Shutterfly’s Wink are already developing new applications based on this technology. The former will integrate PayPal into its barcode-scanning application. The latter is a service that makes personalized photostrips from pictures on a computer, a phone, in Flickr or Facebook. Via PayPal’s micropayments processing, the photo order can be paid for without leaving the application.

PayPal has revealed plans to open it up to developers outside the US in the near future.
