US financial services provider PNC Bank, member of The PNC Financial Services Group has rolled out a mobile banking feature that is set to allow customers to deposit cheques using an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad 2.

As a result, PNCs mobile deposit capability can be used by customers with access to the PNC online banking service and an eligible deposit account. The service is set to allow customers to make deposits via three steps.

How it works

The customers have to select the deposit account and the amount. Then, the PNC mobile banking customers need to photograph the front of the cheque and then the back. Finally, mobile deposits are expected to be available the next business day.

In February 2011 , US financial institution BankAtlantic has entered an agreement with PNC Bank to sell its 19 branches and 2 related facilities in the Tampa – St. Petersburg area and the associated deposits, counting nearly USD 350 million, to PNC.
