Polish banks team up for in-store m-payments system

Six Polish financial services providers have entered a partnership to set up a payment system that would enable consumers to carry out mobile-enabled payments in store, Reuters reports.

According to the source, the banks have revealed plans to make the new mobile payment system available by the end of 2013. The system, which is set to be based on a platform provided by PKO BP, is expected to allow smartphone users to pay for purchases in-store via a one-time transaction code generated by a mobile app. Payments will be carried out in retail locations equipped with special payment terminal, the same source reports.

The six banks involved in the partnersip are PKO BP, Alior Bank , Banco Santanders Bank Zachodni WBK , Commerzbanks BRE Bank and ING Groups ING Bank Slaski. Combined, the six financial services providers have around 16 million clients, which represents around 70 percent of the Polish market.
