Monday 27 June 2011 09:19 CET | News

Russian financial institution Alfa-Bank has teamed up with local mobile operator VimpelCom to launch RuRu, a payment system that is set to offer mobile/e-commerce payments and P2P transfers and mobile remittances, nearfieldcommunicationsworld.com reports. VimpelCom operates the Beeline mobile network.

According to the source, the RuRu platform is set to enable customers to pay for telecoms services, utilities, fees for loans and payments to the state, railway and air tickets or tickets to entertainment events. As part of future developments, the partnership is planning to provide customers with NFC services as well.

How it works

RuRu customers have to nominate a default account which is automatically debited each time they make a purchase using the service. Transactions made via RuRu can currently be charged to their Beeline account.

In addition, the source indicates that both parties are expected to enable customers in the future to charge payments to accounts held at other mobile network operators. Purchases can also be charged to Visa and MasterCard-branded cards, as well as to a WebMoney account.
