To support the initiative, MTS has signed an agreement with the Moscow Metro whereas MegaFon has chosen to run a separate pilot in Saint Petersburg. According to the same source, in Saint Petersburg, MegaFon will make available NFC-enabled payment stickers that can be attached on the back of the mobile phone case to enable the device to act as a train ticket.

MTS plans to run the trial program with the Moscow Metro starting January 2011 , while Megafon will be ready for the launch by the end of the year. Global NFC technology provider Ambiq Technology is also testing a similar project in Saint Petersburg.
