Sprint to roll out mobile-based payment application

Sprint Nextel, a US provider of wireless and wireline communication services is set to launch the Sprint Mobile Wallet, a service designed to enable customers to make purchases using a Sprint mobile device.

The Sprint Mobile Wallet allows users to use a universal PIN to make purchases using their Visa, MasterCard and Amazon Payments accounts along with other payment methods. To access the service, customers need to select Sprint Mobile Wallet at checkout, enter their PIN and choose their payment method or account from those saved in the Sprint Mobile Wallet. Moreover, transaction security services for the m-wallet application are being provided by US alternative payment services provider CardinalCommerce.

CardinalCommerce powers the Cardinal Centinel e-commerce platform. Through Cardinal’s Centinel technology, merchants can enable multiple authenticated and alternative payment brands such as Verified by Visa, MasterCard SecureCode, Amazon Payments, Bill Me Later, ClickandBuy, Cred-Ex, Ebates, eBillme, eLayaway, Google Checkout, Green Dot MoneyPak, Mazooma, Moneta, Moneybookers, MyECheck, NACHA Secure Vault Payments (SVP), NYCE SafeDebit, OneTouch Online Purchasing, Paymate, PayPal, paysafecard, RevolutionCard, SafetyPay, TeleCheck and Ukash.

Initially, Sprint Mobile Wallet will be available to download through Sprint Zone. In 2011, it will be preloaded on additional Sprint devices.
