Telenor, DnB NOR to start NFC mobile payments trial program

Danish mobile telephone operator Telenor and Norway-based financial services group DnB NOR have teamed up to start an NFC mobile payments trial for their customers during 2011. The test project is a cooperation between Telenor, DnB NOR, MasterCard, Teller, Nets and Giesecke and Devrient.

As a result, around 250 customers are expected to be able to pay by holding their mobile up to the payment terminal at the till. The money will be debited from the customers’ MasterCard-branded card. The customers taking part in the test will be using a Samsung mobile devices enabled with NFC technology and an adapted SIM card.

In recent and related news , Danish mobile telephone operators TDC, Telenor, TeliaSonera and Three have entered an agreement to cooperate on the development of an NFC-based digital wallet service in Denmark. The m-wallet offering is set to provide consumers with the ability to pay for goods and services via their contactless-enabled phones. A number of additional services, such as access control and book lending, are also set to be accessible via the m-wallet, operators have indicated.
