For the development of the newly-announced service, Telenor has chosen global electronic payment services provider Halcom to provide mobile payments software and German electronic payment services provider Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) to supply SIM cards and manage mobile payments applications. Telenor has also entered agreements with four banks in Serbia for its mobile payments scheme, namely Komercijalna Bank, Erste Bank, Credit Agricole and Raiffeisen Bank.
With the PlatiMo service, Telenor is expected to enable Serbian subscribers to pay mobile phone bills issued by Telenor, send money to other PlatiMo users, carry out online purchases, buy airplane tickets via the call centre of Serbias national air company JAT Airways and top up their prepaid accounts in the Telenor network.
In addition, Telenor is planning to offer the option of paying utility bills for electricity, cable TV, water or internet via its PlatiMo service. In addition, together with the partner banks, Telenor is planning to extend the payment scheme into the area of ticketing, thus enabling users to pay for cinema, theatre and concert tickets, taxi rides and public transport.
G&D is expected to exhibit its PlatiMo system at the Mobile World Congress 2011 event in Barcelona, Spain.
