Tuesday 28 July 2009 00:21 CET | News

US home improvement specialty retailer The Home Depot is set to begin accepting the MasterCard PayPass contactless technology in over 1,900 of its retail locations in the US.

Thus, The Home Depot customers can carry out payments by tapping their MasterCard PayPass cards or devices on a PayPass reader at checkout to complete their purchases. In addition to MasterCard PayPass, The Home Depot will continue to accept all other traditional magnetic-stripe payment card brands.

According to research carried out by MasterCard, in Q1 2009 over 55 million PayPass-enabled cards or devices had been issued, more than double the number of cards and devices in circulation around the world during the previous year.
