Turkcell launches mobile wallet service

Friday 5 October 2012 10:29 CET | News

Turkish mobile operator Turkcell has launched a mobile wallet service dubbed Turkcell Wallet which allows consumers to purchase goods and services in store or online by using their mobile phone numbers instead of credit cards.

The Turkcell Wallet is a SIM based application, working on mobile phones. The transactions can be initiated through the SIM menu on phones or with a native application on smartphones and it supports contactless payments on NFC-enabled phones. Consumers can also transfer funds, top-up their prepaid accounts and have access to mobile loyalty programs. Turkcell customers can activate Turkcell Wallet by adding their cards with an SMS or by loading cash into their wallets through Garanti ATMs or Turkcell Communication Centers.

In April 2012, Turkcell and financial services provider Akbank have jointly launched the Cep-T Neo prepaid card on Turkcell’s SIM banking platform.
