Uganda: Obopay, Warid Telecom partner for Warid Pesa mobile banking service

Indian mobile payments company Obopay has entered a partnership with Uganda-based telecom operator Warid Telecom to launch a mobile banking and payment service dubbed Warid Pesa which enables customers in Uganda to perform e-money transactions, pay for goods and services as well as settle accounts.

Under the agreement, the Warid Pesa mobile banking service is based on Obopay’s platform and mobile money service and it can be used on any mobile device. The new service allows customers to perform person-to-person and person-to merchant mobile money transfers, top up prepaid mobile phones, view account statements and other.

In recent news, Obopay has appointed Deepak Chandnani as its new Chief Executive Officer, in a bid to expand the company’s mobile payments services. Obopay also named Carol Realini as its new Executive Chairman.
