The Payments Council, the industry body responsible for setting strategy for payments in the UK, is allegedly developing a platform for UK banks, in a bid to enable them to deliver m-payment services, media outlet nearfieldcommunicationsworld.com reports.

According to the source and citing Richard Martin, head of innovation at the UK Payments Council, the proposition is expected to be put to tender in September 2011, while the commercial launch of the platform is planned in 2012.

Moreover, the source has indicated that the UK Payments Council has requested expressions of interest from potential suppliers interested in helping to design, build and operate a common infrastructure platform.

In recent news, The Payments Council has reversed its decision with regard to the closure of the cheque clearing in October 2018, as no suitable alternative has been proposed.
