In Q1 2010, mobile banking adoption in the US has increased by 20 percent, as a result of the proliferation of smartphones and a growing consumer comfort and familiarity with mobile technology.

These are the findings of a study on large and regional banks in the US conducted by market research firm Mobile Strategy Partners which also indicates that mobile banking is expected to catch up with online banking in 2011, in spite of banks` efforts to offer support to offline customers.

During the period under review, USAA registered 17 percent mobile banking adoption, as compared to 14 percent at the end of 2009, while the number of mobile banking users reported by Bank of America has increased from 2.6 million in June 2009 to 4 million.

According to the same source, online banking usage has been constant at nearly 40 percent for years and for now, the majority of US banks offer limited mobile banking services to online banking customers.
