Verizon Wireless, Payfone to develop new mobile payment offering

US mobile telecommunications network and wireless phone provider Verizon Wireless has entered an agreement with mobile payment processing services company Payfone to develop a new mobile payment system for Verizon Wireless customers.

When available, the service is set to allow Verizon Wireless customers to carry out online purchases from their smartphones, tablets and PCs using a number of payment methods, including charging purchases to their monthly wireless statements or using traditional payment methods through financial institution partners.

Payfone’s mobile payments offering allows operators and merchants are able to carry out transactions securely. Payfone also provides other features aimed at both consumers and merchants, including intelligent routing, pre-authorization and authentication designed to reduce the friction and fraud that affect sales conversion and revenue yield.
