Under the terms of the agreement, the partners have launched a payments initiative set to enable Akbank customers to pay for their purchases using their Blackberry devices and a microSD slot card, dubbed In2Pay, offered by the US-based mobile contactless payments services provider DeviceFidelity. The microSD card’s use will not be restricted only to payments services, allowing data storage as well.
The Device Fidelity chip is compliant with EMV and Global Platform and is set to support both Javacard and MiiFare-powered applications and to integrate with the Wallet system that has previously been used by NFC systems.
Initially, the mobile contactless scheme will be available only on BlackBerry devices but Visa intends to expand it in the near future to include the HTC, Samsung, LG, Nokia and Motorola handsets as well.
