Visa to launch mobile contactless payment services in Turkey

Thursday 5 August 2010 11:23 CET | News

Visa Europe has partnered Turkish financial services provider Akbank to launch an NFC-technology based mobile payments scheme in Turkey, online news outlet uk.news.yahoo.com reports.

The new payments initiative is set to enable Akbank customers to pay for their purchases using their Blackberry devices and a microSD slot card, dubbed In2Pay, offered by the US-based mobile contactless payments services provider DeviceFidelity. The microSD card’s use will not be restricted only to payments services, allowing data storage as well.

The Device Fidelity chip is compliant with EMV and Global Platform and is set to support both Javacard and MiiFare-powered applications and to integrate with the Wallet system that has previously been used by NFC systems.

Initially, Visa will launch the scheme only for BlackBerry users, intending to make it available on the HTC, Samsung, LG, Nokia and Motorola devices in the near future, the same source has stated.
