Walgreens to integrate Alipay for payments

Monday 18 February 2019 13:15 CET | News

Walgreens has announced that Chinese travellers visiting the US will be able to use mobile payment app Alipay at 3,000 Walgreens stores in New York, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.

4,000 additional US locations are expected to be added by April 2019.

Walgreens joins Guess stores and the shops at San Francisco’s Pier 39 as the US vendors accepting payments via Alipay’s mobile wallet.

The move comes after parent company Walgreens Boots Alliance added a store to Alibaba’s Tmall marketplace in September 2018. The direct-to-consumer channel complements its pre-existing wholesale and retail pharmacy business in China.
