Westpac NZ brings Apple Pay to its customers

Tuesday 2 April 2019 13:24 CET | News

Westpac NZ has brought Apple Pay to all its customers who have an eligible debit or credit card issued by Mastercard and an eligible Apple device.

Westpac NZ Chief Experience Officer, Shane Howell, says the bank is celebrating the introduction of Apple Pay with an initiative that will benefit customers and charitable organisations. The four charitable organisations that will benefit are the Mental Health Foundation, Shine, Sustainable Coastlines and New Zealand’s rescue helicopter services.

As of security, when consumers use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and stored in the Secure Element on the device. Each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.
