Monday 4 January 2010 14:28 CET | News

Wide International Network is to make a new payment system available for Tanzania-based mobile phone users who want to make purchases on the internet, theeastafrican.co.ke reports.

Starting March 2010, customers will be able to transact business online in tourism, travel, sports, entertainment, web maintenance and solution and ticketing. The system allows users to pay for nearly 30 services provided by companies, businesses, government, learning and health institutions, manufacturing and financial institutions, as well as pay bills for local services including water, electricity and insurance. Transactions can be effected from the payers bank account, by sending instructions to the payment system.

The payment system is hosted by IX Webhosting of the United States and has already been accepted by some organisations including Azam Marine Company, Vodacom and Zain Tanzania.
