According to the same source, mobile and internet-based transactions in Zimbabwe have registered a 28.3 percent growth in May 2013, with more consumers turning to mobile banking for reasons having primarily to do with convenience.
The same monthly economic review indicates that the value of mobile and internet-based transactions in Zimbabwe rose from USD 283.6 million to USD 364 million between April 2013 and May 2013, while the total value of card-based transactions rose by 1.3 percent from USD 328.2 million in April to USD 332.6 million in May 2013.
The use of cheques in Zimbabwe was found to have decreased by 7.2 percent in the same April – May 2013 interval, dropping from USD 16.6 million in April to USD 15.4 million in May 2013.
The value of transactions processed through Zimbabwe Electronic Transfer Settlement System (ZETSS) in May 2013 increased by 10.7 percent to USD 3.91 billion compared to USD 3.54 billion in April 2013. In terms of volumes, transactions registered on the ZETSS were found to have increased by 18 percent during the same interval.
