Zong introduces subscription-based mobile payment service

Wednesday 23 September 2009 13:29 CET | News

Zong, a US developer of mobile payment services for publishers of online games and other digital content, has launched a subscription-based mobile payment service.

As a result of this initiative, Zong customers can extend a recurring bill-to-mobile option of up to USD 9.99 a month to their membership base. The subscription feature is to be initially integrated with photo and video sharing platform Photobucket and OMGPOP, a social gaming platform. With the launch of the new feature, instead of providing credit card billing details, subscribers to OMGPOP and Photobucket can bill their membership fees directly to their phone bills by entering their mobile phone numbers online, receiving a four digit confirmation PIN by SMS text, then entering that PIN online to complete the purchase.Previously, the Zong service could only be used for one-at-a-time micropayments rather than subscription-based services.

Zong has already announced plans to introduce its subscription service to customers in European, Canadian and Australian markets.
