Mobile payment services provider Zong has released its first monthly global aggregate index, dubbed Zong Payment Index (ZPI), which tracks the spending patterns of the company’s global user base, broken down by Zong’s top 40 markets. According to the recently released ZPI, the monthly spend per user for Zong-powered mobile payments globally has gone up 37 percent between January 2010 and February 2011.

In addition, the ZPI’s findings have shown that total spend in Zong mobile payments has doubled in the last 12 months in Canada, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Germany and the Netherlands. Moreover, the global aggregate index has revealed that in the US the monthly spend per user processed by Zong mobile payments has decreased by 8 percent from January 2011 to February 2011.

The ZPI has also analysed several factors likely to impact the mobile payments business, such as consumers’ willingness to use their mobile phone to buy digital goods online and consumers’ ability to use their mobile phones to make purchases as determined by mobile operator policies. In addition, the index has revealed that another factor to impact the m-payment industry is the cost of mobile payments as determined by mobile operators’ fees which sometimes may result in consumer surcharging.

In recent news , Zong has made its m-payment services available to more application platforms and remote devices. As a result, Zong is expected to enable developers to integrate its m-payments service in several environments, including Flash, Unity, Interactive TV, gaming consoles and the mobile web.
