Globe Telecom, BPI in online banking deal

Monday 22 November 2010 14:22 CET | News

Philippines-based telecommunications company Globe Telecom has joined forces with The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) to allow local consumers to access a new online banking option via Globe’s pre-paid broadband USB stick, dubbed Tattoo.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Tattoo stick is set to allow access to the BPI Express Online platform and other BPI websites, without using the stick’s pre-loaded amount. Thus, BPI clients can still carry out online banking transactions, such as fund transfers, pre-paid mobile reloading, bills payments, express cash reloads and balance inquiries.

In addition, the stick is expected to provide Philippines users with a call option, so they can access the BPI Express Phone for more banking services. Moreover, the stick is expected to be available via other banking channels, such as Express Mobile and the Express Teller platforms, or through Globe pre-paid cards.

Currently, between 65 to 70 percent of BPI transactions are carried out online, counting 900,000 users for mobile banking.
