Monday 7 November 2011 14:53 CET | News

Financial services provider HSBC`s online banking services and few of the bank’s ATMs have faced some technical problems and were not able to work for more than two hours, on Friday, 4 November 2011. According to bbc.com, the system went down at 14:45 GMT and the server has started working again at 17:00.

As a result of a server fault, in-store debit card payments were affected. In addition, customers who use the website of First Direct, a telephone and internet-based retail bank, have also registered problems when accessing their accounts. The bank’s spokesman has stated that this problem does not present security risks for customers.

In June 2011, HSBC had a total of 3,789 cash machines on the UKs Link network. The number of cash machines which have been affected by the glitch has not been revealed.
