ING Direct online account holders can now order chequebooks – report

Wednesday 17 August 2011 00:42 CET | News

In the wake of its June 2011 acquisition by Capital One Financial Corporation, US online bank ING Direct now provides holders of its Electric Orange account with the option to order chequebooks, online media outlet americanbanker.com reports.

This constitutes a surprise move for the US online bank, whose Electric Orange account offering aimed to encourage consumers to go paperless and opt for online-only payment transactions.

However, in order to start using their chequebooks, ING Direct account holders must first activate them online, the same source indicates. Each ING Direct cheque features a randomly generated security code. Unless the chequebook has been activated prior to use, the cheques will not be cleared by ING. An alert is also sent to the customer when each chesque has been cleared.

Consumers who do not want to use chequebooks have the option to continue to request and send cheques online.
