Ireland has seen its number of online banking users reach 2.7 million at the end of 2010, media outlet sbpost.ie reports.

According to the source, citing a report on online banking from the Irish Banking Federation (IBF) and the Irish Payment Services Organisation (IPSO), Irish consumers’ use of online banking increased in 2010. Although the numbers are 4 percent higher in 2010 than in 2009, the report indicates that Ireland still has to catch up with other European countries in terms of online banking usage.

Moreover, the source reports that a total of 415,000 new Irish customers registered for online banking in 2010. According to the research, Irish customers used online banking services to access their bank accounts 150 million times in 2010, up 10.4 percent compared to the 2009 report.

Irish online banking users carried out 38.6 million payments via online banking services in 2010, an increase of 11.7 percent over 2009, the source indicates.
