Japan: Mizuho Bank to suspend online banking operations until 21 Mar 2011 - report

Japanese financial institution Mizuho Bank is reportedly planning to suspend its online banking operations until 21 March 2011, according to the Jiji news agency, cited by media outlet reuters.com.

Following Japan’s recent earthquake, an announcement has been made that all 5,622 of Mizuho Financial Groups ATMs, as well as its online banking service and money transfer system have disrupted settlement transactions on 17 March 2011, the source reports.

In addition, media outlet tmcnet.com reports that tellers at the banks 440 branches have been unable to carry out transactions starting with 17 March 2011 and around 500,000 transfer orders placed since that time have yet to be processed.

Mizuho Financial Group provides financial services such as general banking, securities brokerage, trust banking and assets management.
