More US consumers adopt online banking services – research

The popularity of the online banking channel shows signs of increase among US consumers, a recent survey has unveiled.

The research conducted by the American Bankers Association has revealed that 36 percent of young bank customers prefer to manage their personal finances via the online banking channel as compared to 25 percent in 2009.

Moreover, the survey results have indicated that the popularity of the online banking services was not exclusively tied to the youngest consumers, since respondents under the age of 55 manifested the same preference. However, consumers over 55 still prefer to visit their local branch to conduct their banking activities (33 percent).

The same source has indicated that the consumers preference for online banking was followed by that of visiting branches (25 percent) and using ATMs (15 percent). Furthermore, 3 percent of respondents, primarily aged between 18 and 34, have indicated that they prefer  to bank using their mobile devices.
