Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC) and the Zakat Fund have launched the Zakat payment service via the Abu Dhabi e-government portal, according to the online media outlet zawya.com.

The Zakat payment service is set to provide donors with the ability to donate money via the Abu Dhabi e-government portal.

Moreover, the two entities have signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of spatial data, designed to guide the well-wishers to the nearest Zakat payment or donations points.

Via the MoU, various methods are available for those who want to contribute to charitable causes, by browsing the geospatial portal and identify all the places where there are machines in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. Afterwards, donors are able to locate the nearest place to their residence and go directly to it or donate through browsing the Abu Dhabi e-government portal. Additionally, the Zakat Fund can distribute paying machines in new places in Abu Dhabi.

In 2011, the program is expected to focus on building the capacities of corporate geographic information systems and establishing partnerships with international entities working in the field of information, technologies and geospatial services (GITS).

The Zakat Fund was established in 2003 as a Zakat authority set to increase the awareness of Zakat and establish the concept of Zakat Banks.
