Monday 15 March 2010 00:21 CET | News

Chinese Alibaba Groups online payment division Alipay has reached the 300 million user milestone on 15 March, JLM Pacific Epoch reports, citing 163.com.

Alipay has 460,000 partner sites in addition to Alibabas consumer-focused e-commerce site Taobao.com. In July 2009, the company had 200 million users, as compared to 150 million users registered at the end of February 2009. By 7 December, Alipay`s daily transaction volume reached RMB 1.21 billion (USD 177 million). Alipay recorded a total of 270 million users by late 2009.

Alipay, which is 40 percent owned by Yahoo, delivers an e-commerce payment technology and risk management system for banks and financial institutions. According to unnamed sources, e-commerce site Alibaba.com has been in talks with eBay about using eBays online payment tool PayPal for Ali Express, a B2B platform for international customers. Alibaba.com PR has responded to such rumors by stating that the company “has always partnered with Alipay, and will decide whether to adopt other payment tools based on user demands”, JLM Pacific reports.
