Alipay rebrands mobile app as Alipay Wallet

Friday 18 January 2013 13:43 CET | News

Chinese third-party online payment platform Alipay has rebranded its Android payment application as Alipay Wallet, to reflect its shift from mostly facilitating e-payments to also handling online-to-offline (O2O) payments.

The newly introduced application can store and manage a range of payment methods, including credit cards, gift cards and coupons. Money will be transferred via the internet, barcodes, QR codes and a “sound wave payment” technology, a feature which uses white noise to communicate between devices and transfer funds between Alipay Wallet users.

In recent news, Alipay has unveiled that it has formally established a new rural business unit, aiming to reach non-e-commerce users in third- and fourth-tier cities as well as in rural areas.
