Butterfly Labs, a US manufacturer of encryption processors, has selected BitPay, a Bitcoin payment processor, to be its exclusive online payment processor for its new line of ASIC cryptographic processors.

The orders and payments arrived from 17 different countries, including Belgium, Russia, Finland, Poland and the Philippines. From launch time, BitPay has processed over USD 250,000 worth of bitcoin payments. According to Anthony Gallippi, the co-founder and CEO of BitPay, cited by online media outlet marketwatch.com, using BitPay, an internet merchant can accept a payment from any country worldwide.

Since its inception in August 2011, BitPay has been used by more than 600 merchants to sell all types of products, ranging from computers, to internet access, to video games.

Bitcoin is a descentralized digital currency and payment network, with a current market price of around USD 5 per Bitcoin. The currency is controlled by cryptography rather than by any corporation or central bank. Created as an open-source software project, Bitcoin enables users to transfer funds instantly to any other Bitcoin account holder in the world.
