cashU, an online payment provider, has entered an agreement with Zain, a Kuwait-based telecommunication company, to provide the latter’s customers with a method to shop online without using credit cards.

As a result, Zain customers in Kuwait will be able to purchase cashU refill coupons through the newly launched iCard service. The iCard mobile payment service enables customers to get cashU prepaid cards without the use of a credit card or K-Net, a company with provides electronic banking services to all the banks in Kuwait.

Payments require a card voucher which is ordered by SMS and the payment for the voucher is done via the users mobile account balance. After sending through a text, customers receive a message asking them to choose the CashU card option. Once this is done, the customer receives a voucher number enabling them to shop online.

In 2011, 54 percent of the total number of CashU transactions have been from online gaming, with 34 percent of CashU online gamers being under the age of 18, and dont have access to credit cards. Since its inception in 2002, cashU provides online payments services to global and regional online merchants across Middle East and North Africa.
