China: citizens want more online security

Chinese citizens want more internet security and 70 percent of them have declared their personal information has been compromised online, a recent study has unveiled.

According to a research conducted by Banyuetan or China Comment, a political magazine published by Chinas state-run Xinhua News Agency, 30 percent of respondents have mentioned that they have been victims of information leaks more than once.

Results have also pointed out that 51 percent of Chinese respondents believe their personal information is most likely stolen by commercial institutions such as banks and insurance companies. The same source has revealed that people have expressed a strong demand for authorities to consider legislation to protect personal information.

The survey is based on a sample of 3,046 Chinese citizens.
