Electronic Arts selects Facebook Credits as exclusive in-game currency

Wednesday 3 November 2010 08:10 CET | News

Video game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) has closed a deal with Facebook, under the terms of which the former will exclusively use Facebook Credits as the paid virtual currency offered in EA games.

Facebook Credits can be used as a virtual currency in games, which users play for free, but pay for specific virtual items. The system is meant to simplify online transactions by allowing users to use just one source of currency, instead of having to enter separate bank or credit card information for each purchase. Facebook Credits are used in more than 200 games and applications on Facebook from more than 75 developers.

Earlier this year, Facebook made similar five-year deals with two other social gaming companies, namely Zynga, Playdom, which is now owned by Walt Disney, and Crowdstar.
