Facebook closes virtual currency exchange deal with Sometrics

Thursday 14 October 2010 09:54 CET | News

Facebook has added social application platform developer Sometrics in the App2User program, which allows merchants and loyalty program operators to convert reward points into Facebook Credits.

Through the Sometrics-operated website GameCoins.com, users can earn “Game Coins” virtual currency in their favorite online games by writing game reviews, completing offers, installing toolbars and other tasks for third party customers. Under the new partnership, the Game Coins currency can be converted into Facebook Credits, which users will spend within various Facebook apps.

In related news, Facebook has selected PlaySpan, a US-based provider of monetization services for online games, virtual worlds and social networks, to open new channels of distribution for its Facebook Credits on a global scale. Facebook Credits are currently being used in more than 200 games and applications on Facebook from more than 75 developers.
