Google purchases TxVia to complement Google Wallet capability

Tuesday 3 April 2012 11:34 CET | News

Google has purchased US-based developer of processing technology for network-based payment systems TxVia, to support its own payments capability via Google Wallet, a virtual wallet for payments online and at physical stores through mobile phones. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed yet.

The Google Wallet mobile application is currently available for payment in-store on select mobile phones running on Sprints network.

Google and TxVia have already been collaborating in 2011. Since its inception in 2008, TxVia has delivered processing services and supported the management of more than 100 million accounts.

Most recently, Google was rumoured to share revenue with carriers like US mobile operator Verizon Wireless and US-based mobile operator AT&T in order to enable them to adopt its mobile wallet technology and boost its market share in the mobile payments market, online media outlet forbes.com reports.
