Indian Government introduces new e-payment gateway

Wednesday 23 November 2011 13:29 CET | News

The Indian Government has rolled out an e-payments system, dubbed the “Government e-Payment Gateway” (GePG).

The Government e-Payment Gateway represents a portal which enables the delivery of payment services from Pay & Accounts Offices (PAOs) for online payment into beneficiaries’ accounts via digitally signed electronic advice (e-advice).

The system is also expected to allow the expedition of direct payments from central paying units relating to subsidies to the users and consumers of fertilizer, kerosene and cooking gas, which is the government’s main objective.

The digitally signed electronic advice (e-advice) will by uploaded on GePG by the PAOs and it will afterwards be downloaded by banks to credit the beneficiaries’ accounts via CBS/NEFT/RTGS as applicable.

The system has been developed by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), the Department of Expenditure and the Ministry of Finance.
