MasterCard and global logistics and transportation services provider Aramex have teamed up to boost online retail in the Middle East.

The newly-formed alliance is set to bring online retail services to consumers in the Middle East by combining MasterCard’s payment processing global network and Aramex’s expertise in providing e-services and e-business services.

MasterCard has worked together with Aramex to provide additional benefits to its cardholders via the latter’s Shop and Ship service. The Shop and Ship e-tail delivery service enables Middle East consumers to make online purchases from the US, UK and Europe. Consumers are able to access the Aramex service by logging on to ShopandShip.com and signing up for a lifetime membership account. After the consumer places an order, Aramex receives the ordered goods at its facilities from the online retailer and then ships and delivers them to the shopper.

According to the findings of a recent survey conducted by MasterCard, the percentage of consumers in UAE who prefer to shop online has increased from 29 percent in 2009 to 42 percent in 2010.
