MercadoPago payment platform receives PCI certification

MercadoPago, the internet payment platform in Latin America, has received the Payment Card Industry (PCI) certification for its operations in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and Venezuela.

Credit card payments currently account for almost 70 percent of all transactions processed via MercadoPago. The international standard, audited by IBM, helps prevent credit card fraud and protects cardholder information. In Q1 2012, MercadoPago has registered USD 370 million in online payments, which represents a 50 percent increase as compared to Q1 2011. Meanwhile, the number of transactions processed through the platform has jumped 84.6 percent reaching 4.9 million payments.

PCI DSS is a multifaceted security standard that includes requirements for security management, policies, network architecture, software design and other data protection measures. They enable companies that process data for debit, credit, prepaid, e-purse, ATM and POS cards to handle cardholders` information.

MercadoPago, an eBay Group company, is present in 6 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.
