MercadoPago teams up with Smart2Pay

MercadoPago.com, the internet payment platform with Latin American origin, has entered a partnership with Smart2Pay, an online payment services provider,

Following the partnership, MercadoPago will be available as a payment method within the Smart2Pay platform, which means that Brazilians will be able to make purchases on websites from all over the world. Thus, all MercadoPago customers are now able to shop at international merchants and pay in BRL (Reais).

The request to facilitate MercadoPago via the Smart2Pay platform came from international merchants who would like to offer MercadoPago as a means of payment and therefore have access to millions of users from the MercadoPago (eBay group) payment platform, according to André Boesing, director of Smart2Pay.

MercadoPago, an eBay Group company, is present in 6 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela. During 2010, there were 6.7 million transactions processed through MercadoPago, which handled a volume of over USD 698 million.

Smart2Pay specializes in internet payments since 2002, covering more than 70 countries around the world. Smart2Pay is headquartered in the Amsterdam area (Netherlands), with offices in Austria, Brazil and Romania. The company has established partnerships with various banks and financial institutions around the world. In March 2011, Smart2Pay has received a Payment Institution (PI) license from the Dutch Central Bank.
